1944

We started our operations at 6 Church Lane, Calcutta, as a dealer for Caterpillar, USA.

1944-53

We imported earthmoving, construction and mining equipment, such as track dozers, excavators, loaders, off-highway trucks, scrapers, pavers, motor graders and pipe layers, from USA.

1956

Secured a contract from the Refugee Rehabilitation Directorate, Government of West Bengal, for a Caterpillar D8 tractor for Rs. 1.34 lakh and a Caterpillar 112 motor grader for Rs. 72,000.

1976

• Extended our footprint beyond Indian borders, entering into agreements that would help serve Nepal, Bhutan and Myanmar. We enriched our offerings, launching special purpose off-highway trucks and underground mining equipment.

• An important juncture in the dealership’s history, as the leadership baton was transferred from the expatriate management headed by Mr. Bill Williamson to Mr. Bobby Mazumdar.

1985

An inflection point that accelerated our growth momentum. We stepped our portfolio further, foraying into power systems and oilfield equipment, as well as customised off-highway trucks and underground mining apparatus.

1991

India liberalised its economy, lifting restrictions on trade and inviting global players to participate in its growth. Thereafter, Caterpillar USA, in a landmark initiative, began manufacturing in India. We now enjoyed direct access to Caterpillar products, significantly improving customer service and the time to market. With this, we served Eastern and Northern India.

1994

We celebrated fifty years as a Caterpillar dealership.

1999

We launched our first Six Sigma initiative, to streamline manufacturing, optimise processes and move towards a zero-defect work culture.

2000

We established our first subsidiary in Nepal.

2003

We initiated our first Maintenance and Repair Contract in India with Tata Steel (South Eastern Block).

2005

We opened India’s first Caterpillar Rental Store at Sahibabad in Delhi.
It was also the year we received the ‘Best Supplier Award’ from Tata Steel and won Caterpillar APD (Asia Pacific Division) President’s Award for Six Sigma.

2009

We inaugurated a state-of the-art component rebuild centre in Asansol, West Bengal.

2010

We incorporated Tractors India Private Ltd.

2013

Acquired Bucyrus Business from Caterpillar thus offering mining customers an unparalleled range of products and services.

2016

• The ownership of Tractors India Private Ltd. (TIPL) was transferred to Goodearth Minetech Private Ltd. At the same time, we were reborn as an independent, thriving organisation with enduring support from Caterpillar.
  
  Mr. Sunil Chaturvedi’s association with TIPL dates back to January 2014, when he assumed the position of the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. He became Chairman and Managing Director of the reconstituted Board of TIPL on June 24, 2016.

• We articulated a new Vision statement, becoming a preferred partner to all the customers through innovative, diverse and sustainable solutions aimed at creating value for our stakeholders and the society at large.

• We also institutionalised a Value framework, identifying Customer Centricity, Collaboration, Caring, Entrepreneurship and Excellence as the tenets that define and shape our culture.

• The year saw us record India’s highest ever coal production of 5,050 tonnes in a single day, from our continuous miner section at Jhanjra, West Bengal.

2017

We partnered with widely acclaimed technology expert, RPM Global.

Caterpillar recognised us as the third-best dealer in the Asia Pacific, CIS, Africa and Middle East (ACAM) region in the Overall Customer Excellence category at the ACAM Dealer Customer Excellence Awards.

2018

• The most defining phase of our journey. The year witnessed the consolidation of Tractors India Pvt. Ltd. (TIPL) with our group companies, making us significantly bigger, stronger and better. TIPL was renamed as Gainwell Commosales Pvt. Ltd. – a transformation that derives its strength from our rich fundamentals of customer centricity and excellence.

• We introduced and operationalised India’s first low-height continuous miner (LHCM) at Jhanjra, West Bengal. We also deployed LHCM package sets – a benchmark for the industry – helping successfully mine in low-coal seams.

• We inaugurated ‘Unnati’, our integrated facility at Greater Noida. UNNATI has set a benchmark towards our efforts of sustainability by being the 1st LEED v4 BD+C: NC Platinum project in India and 2nd in Asia.

• Caterpillar recognised us as one of the five best dealers in the world in Services category at the Global Dealer Excellence award by Caterpillar; besides adjudging us the best in the ACAM region in Services as well.

• We moved up the value chain with the indigenous production of our first high-wall mining system. Our services now spanned manufacturing, distribution and product support, reinforcing our identity as a ‘total solutions provider’.

• We entered into alliances with multiple global OEMs such as Phillips, Paus, Resemin, Eickhoff Elphinstone, Ontrak, RHAM and SITECH to provide turnkey ‘Solutions for Growth’ to our customers in infrastructure and mining space.

• Caterpillar awarded us with Gold Standard in Warranty Excellence for the third consecutive year.

2019

• Broke our earlier record of India’s highest coal production in a day, with a new benchmark of 5,100 tonnes.

• Tied up with Marini to sell and distribute concrete mix batch plant.

• Partnered with thyssenkrupp for sales and product support (parts and service) for all aggregate crushing equipment and plants manufactured by thyssenkrupp Industries India.

• Conferred with the National Best Employer Brand Award in the Service Manufacturing category at the 13th edition of the Employer Branding Awards.
